Those of you who read one of my 1st blog posts may remember me saying I am a serial Entrepreneur. I am always starting something and trying to find the perfect fit to make more money and not have to work for anyone else. Then finally I had enough I was going to stop starting stuff and just stretch the cash that I had! Well let me tell you that ain't working. I need more and I can't work for someone for the rest of my life only to retire and have to live on limited income! Soooo I am at it again and inviting you along for the journey!
Currently, I work a full time job which accounts for the majority of my income and I own 2 rental properties which sometimes feel like they drain the majority of my income. LOL I laugh but I mean really, rental properties make for slow money I need my money faster. I still love having my rental properties because it is a very passive activity in which money can be made, and I love houses. I mean, I could sit and watch HGTV all day! But, that just isn't helping me reach the financial goals I have. My B.H.A.G is to buy a house next year 2017 I have been saving but there is not enough of a cushion to make a down payment and have a true emergency fund. With that in mind I decided a side hustle was a must!
My first idea was to start offering Money Yoga Sip and Save Classes where I teach people to coupon, budget and save all while sipping wine or tea if they don't drink alcohol. As I was planning the classes I said to myself, "Self, what if you could make money off of the wine you serve at your event?" And the I replied to myself, "Self, that is a good damn idea you entrepreneur you." So I was on the hunt looking for a reputable direct sales company that sold wine! And low and behold I found Traveling Vineyard! Perfect my plan was set in motion... I made contact and signed up and told my upline what my plan was and she was so laid back she said, "ok." And I was like wait where is the pressure to do this and do that. But trust me I was ok without that!
I got my kit in the mail in 3 days and it was awesome because it included so much stuff! and then I ordered my "Tasting Sets" which is 2 sets of 5 bottles of wine for tasting parties. ALL of this for such a small fee I was amazed!!
Then I started reading and taking training so I know what to do and what not to do and I started getting excited and seeing this opportunity for more than just a supplement to my Sip and Save class plan. People PAY to go to wine tastings, now I can offer a wine tasting in their home with their friends for FREE! Sounds like a winner to me. Who doesn't like free fun and wine?? Makes for the perfect Girls Night In or Couples Night In. Matter of fact I could even see a Guys Night In to learn about wine you know for the sophisticated man that is ready to venture beyond beer and liquor!
So Katrina The Wine Diva was officially born! Now I'm ready to go and able to offer FREE in Home Wine Tastings for anyone that so desires. Go to www.katrinathewinediva.com to book your tasting today!
As a part of the blog I will be posting my monthly earnings from my new side hustle and I hope it inspires some of you to step out on faith and start that side hustle you've been thinking about trying! Nothing beats a failure but a try! Oh and don't worry the Sip and Save class I mentioned earlier is still coming soon, November 12, 2016 to be exact!
Talk to you guys soon! And Cheers to my new side hustle!
Where do I begin? Or does it even matter as long as I actually begin? I haven't written in a long time and for a few reasons. I'm going to discuss the top two reasons with you all. The first reason is I started letting finances slip and how could I talk to you about something that I was not doing?
But then I remembered we are in this together when my Money Yogi's catch me slipping I need ya'll to call me out. I will be watching you too! I have neglected my coupon clipping and my beloved cash back apps. Do you understand what that means? I, yes me, the Money Yoga Master was paying full price for stuff and I felt sick every single time! I wasn't paying attention to my budget andddd I had to pay a late fee! I despise late fees but ya'll already knew that. Not using my credit card responsibly. Oh and the infamous feeling of seeing an unknown number come across the phone and saying to myself I am scared to answer this it might be a bill collector. I could feel myself falling deeper and deeper in this whole and trying to figure out when I would start clawing my way out! Well today is the day! Started with my budget spreadsheet putting all of my expenses to get a true picture of my financial responsibilities. Next get my coupons in order and start couponing again and making sure I am not spending too much money on certain items. I am going to stretch this cash honey because being financially stressed is for the birds!
The second reason I haven't been writing and fell of track is all of my focus has been on my health. I needed to lose some weight ya'll! It is so hard to find balance! I found the more I was concentrating on getting physically fit the more I was neglecting staying financially fit and neglecting my Money Yogi's. I think in general we take for granted how closely health and wealth are related. I didn't have energy to do so many of the things I needed to do. So I started cutting carbs and working out and as the weight started coming off things started turning around. I get home from work and still have some get up and go. My attitude is better and I am just plain happier. With that being said it makes it so much easier to get other things in order when your health is is order. So if you have some work to do in the area of health and weight loss, I beg you get started now! I promise it will make a world of difference!
I still have a ways to go to get to my goal but check your girl out I am coming down nicely!
Nothing can stand in my way I am getting my body tight and my money right!!! I just need to know who is with me??? If you said me, I need you all to buckle your seat belt and get ready to ride, no holds barred in this journey, Let's Go!
You will not believe what I did today!!! Well if you don't know me that well you will believe it, but you won't believe that I don't normally do it!! I am talking about my hair people, I did my own hair. I am the worst when it comes to doing hair. Please spare me the, "Just YouTube it!" That just doesn't work for me! But, what also doesn't work for me, is walking around looking crazy too many days in a row or spending money that I don't have! So today to stretch my cash, I shampooed and twisted my own hair instead of spending $80-$100.
So there you have the before. Don't I look like a little girl after church on Easter Sunday? LOL
If you understand that reference you understand it, or if you don't, then don't worry just know I needed to do something with my hair. Today was the day, I ignored the popular opinion that I'm not "Becky with the good hair." and was determined to conquer my hair. My $80- $100 staying in my pocket depended on it! I literally had to lock myself in the bathroom until I detangled and twisted my hair. Total time to shampoo, condition, detangle and twist was an hour and a half! So I actually saved myself time and money! So below you will see what my hair looked like after it was twisted. Not quite the finished product because my plan was to do a twist out but of course my hair was not dry the next morning so I wore the twist to work :-)
Look, Beauticians are my friends and I will be continuing to use their services and encourage you to do the same. But, moreover I want to encourage you to make sure it's in the budget and if it's not, you must take matters into your own very capable hands!!

Have you ever started to dread getting the mail? And when you do decide to sort through the mail, its like looking at a kaleidoscope because the bills have changed just about every color you could imagine! It has been a reality for most of us at one point or another but we can not afford to let mail cause this level of anxiety. Especially when I haven't even talked about opening them yet!!!
In the stressful situation known as being in debt, you have a choice as to which defense mechanism you will employ. There are a variety of actions defined as defense mechanisms but today we are going to keep it simple. My man Biggie said it best, "Our situation is a tight one, what you gonna do fight or run?" Yes, ladies and gentlemen I am talking about the fight or flight response to stressful and/ or perceived harmful events. It seems quite easy to ignore those bills and run from the responsibility of debt, but at some point it will cost you!
When you choose flight as your defense against debt, you keep your stress level high, negatively affect your credit score, pay more in late fees and pay more in interest when you want to buy a car or home! So in the end you end up living like a dog chasing it's tail, except I can guarantee actual dogs chasing their tails are having more fun than you! I am encouraging you to stop chasing your tail and stop running!
If you are having trouble paying a bill call the company most of them can help set up a payment plan option. See what you can work out to avoid having bills sent to collections and affecting your credit even further! Research your options with a financial advisor most if not all banks have them and most of them will sit down with you for free! Every situatation is different so I can't tell you which path to take but I can tell you to FIGHT for the vision you have your life!
Make sure you subscribe to our newsletter be a Money Yogi, a great benefit to being a part of this community is I will send out reminders for you to pay your bills! Why? Because Late Fees Suck you can buy shoes instead! And most importantly I want you to stop running!

I will never forget a story my mother told me, about back in the day when she was in her 20's. There was a woman on her job that was always dressed to the 9's, from the top down to her shoes. And my mother looked at her and thought, " Man she has it together, I would love to have clothes like that." But at that point in her life she couldn't afford it! This same woman my Mother "admired" for her outward appearance tells my mother, "What kind of car is that you have? I would never get that kind of car." Fast forward a few weeks later, that same woman needed a ride home. My Mom thought, "Oh, that's funny you want a ride? In my old Cutlass? how funny.." But my mother gave her a ride to her apartment not her house but her apartment. This was eye opening for my mother! Yes this woman has nice clothes, but she doesn't have a car and she doesn't own her own home! Now, this isn't meant to down anyone that doesn't own a car or a home. It is just meant to show you that people have different priorities. For my Mother the priority was making sure she could get her and her children from point A to point B without relying on someone else or using Baltimore's very limited public transportation. And the other priority was having a nice home for her and her children, that belonged to her that no one could "take away".
Moral of the story is, She could have easily broken her back trying to keep up with this woman and her wardrobe. But, after seeing the things this woman was lacking in order to dress in the latest was not appealing. Many, of us need to spend more time focusing on the things that really matters. And spending money on things we actually need and can afford. I am a shoe lover and would love to own a pair of Louboutins or Giuseppes but, I realize it will get me no where closer to where I really want to be. I'll keep stretching these dollars and maybe one day I'll have a pair or two. But, for know I'll be fly in my Steve Madden shoes that I caught on clearance and got a rebate through Ebates to buy.
So what I am trying to tell you is STOP doing what a lot of us do today, spending money we don't have, using credit allll wrong trying to impress people who need a ride in our car!
So, if you have been keeping up you know the whole point of Money Yoga is stretching cash that you already have! Our mission is to combine traditional and non traditional ways to get more out of your money. Question- What is the most overlooked liquid asset that you have on hand??? Not sure what you answered, but answer is coins! Yes, quarters, dimes, nickels and the under rated penny! Some friends laugh at me because I will break my neck to pick up a penny on the ground. I actually value that penny because I know it adds up. And when its all said and done that penny just increased my net worth and all I had to do was pick it up!
I'm positive most of you have a jar or can or bucket where you throw your coins at the end of the day or week or whenever the opportuinty presents itself. But, I have 2 questions for you. 1. When is the last time you did something with the coins sitting there collecting dust, or the ones in the cushions of your couch, the ones in your car cup holder, or ladies the ones at the bottom of your purse? 2. Do you think you could be earning interest on those coins or buying something you need?
I am on a mission and I challenge you to join me! Since spring just started last week I know many of you are sprucing up your homes, cleaning and de-cluttering your spaces and finding all kinds of loose change. I want you to collect all of that change, put it in one container and finally put it to use!
I have started my cleaning and collecting and will let you know how much I find by Sunday 4/3/2016. I am going to take it to Coinstar to have it counted and cashed in for an Amazon gift card! When you opt for a gift card you don't pay a fee unlike the cash option where Coinstar charges you 10%!
Let's make ALL of our money work for us! Check those cushions, the car, the bottom of your purse, and wherever you leave it collecting dust!
Ready, Get Set, Go!!!
As promised in the Mission 2 post I am gong to tell you about my obsession with ibotta and its awesome money stretching ability!
I LOVE IBOTTA!!! Ok, let me get myself together and just tell you about the app.
The items found on ibotta are the things that you use everyday and more! There are cash rebates on everything from milk and bread, to cleaning products, to clothing and shoes to electronics! And it works at all of your favorite stores and even some restaurants. Just for example, Target, WalMart, Safeway, Best Buy, Macy's, Applebee's and even the liquor store! Everybody buys and uses at least two items listed in the ibotta app! After, I realized this and actually got started redeeming rebates I didn't know why I hadn't started sooner. Oh yes I do know why, because I don't listen just like I didn't listen at first about Ebates!
I signed up on January 8, 2016 and I opened the ibotta app on my phone for the first time the second week of February 2016. Here it is March 15, 2016 and I have gotten $186.75 in cash back and bonuses!!! I actually remember the first rebate I redeemed it was a 1L Deer Park Sparkling Water, at Giant Food Store. The water was on the shelf for regular price $1.00 and ibotta was offering a .50 cent rebate, but wait there's more.... since it was going to be my first time redeeming a rebate ibotta was going to give me .50 cents in cash back and a $10.00 bonus!!! Let me tell you I had to see it to believe it! I bought the sparkling water for $1.00 went to the car opened the ibotta app and clicked verify purchase. Then I clicked on the Giant Food Store link found the water in the list, scanned the water and then it prompted me to take a pic of my receipt. OK, I have to admit the process took a little getting used to but what happened next made it alllll worth it! About 5 minutes after I clicked done a congratulations alert came through my phone. And just like ibotta promised I received $10.50 for redeeming my first rebate!! I spent $1.00 on that water and verified my purchase in about 45 seconds and got back $10.50!! If that isn't the perfect picture of making a dollar out of 15 cents I don't know what is... I mean you do the math!
I was hype!!! I had to tell people about this gem, if I didn't, what kind of friend would I be? So I told my first friend and she signed up for ibotta using the link I sent her and she redeemed her first rebate and 5 minutes later $1.00 in cash back was in her ibotta account along with a $10.00 bonus!!! And to top it off ibotta was kind enough to also put $5.00 in my account for telling my friend about them! I immediately felt my money getting long and lean like it had been practicing yoga for years! If any of you reading this has any intention on making the most out of the money you have, you have to download ibotta!
SO SIGN UP FOR ibotta NOW USING THE BUTTON BELOW FOR YOUR $10.00 BONUS!!

I gave you Mission 1 and 2 trying to have a little Beyonce theme going, (My Beyhivers will get that), but I realized I never told you why I started this journey!
Let's just jump right in, I've always liked money and I've always liked spending it. The problem with that is without the correct making money: spending money ratio, you end up broke! I have always wanted to be able to buy whatever I want but keep my money in my pocket at the same time! So, I guess in my case that old cake saying that we are all so fond of should really be, "I want to have my money and spend it too!" Because of that, I am determined to figure out how to do both even though I am a single mom, with a monthly daycare bill of $2071.20 and a host of other expenses. Yes I said, "A monthly daycare bill of $2071.20." And don't get me wrong I have help from their dad, and my parents even help out with certain things but jeez that is a lot of money!!! I work full-time at a pretty decent job with a decent salary and even own a couple of rental properties. But, that still doesn't mean I can run out and shop till I drop without patting Peter down to make sure I can take care of Paul.
So, I decided I needed to do something! My first thought and probably most people's first thought when dealing with money issues is, " I need more money!" So then the question becomes how do I get/make more. I have dreamed of winning the lottery more times than I can count, I have started more new businesses than I care to mention and worked so many part time jobs than a stereotypical Jamaican. All to end up right where I started... wanting more money!
Finally, I decided instead of constantly trying to get more money why not find ways to stretch the money I have, making it last longer and accomplish more. I will use this blog/website to document my journey. I will be started an online savings account that will be dedicated to my journey, and I will share my balance as it grows. Well that's assuming it will grow :-)
Check out my Bank Account!

I don't know how for years that I've missed out on, getting money back for shopping that I was going to do ANYWAY!
ok ok ok, I do know how I missed out on at least one opportunity to get paid to shop. I missed because I didn't listen!!! The opportunity I am speaking of in this case is Ebates, my best friend mentioned getting money for shopping online using Ebates a least dozen times. One time I remember was at my son's 4th birthday party June 2015. And I heard her but it went in one ear and out the other, I think it just sounded like a hassle or a confusing extra step that wouldn't be worth it! Fast forward to November 2015, its time for Christmas shopping and because she loves me she reminds me that I need to sign up for Ebates even though I have ignored her countless times. So, I finally take the 2 minutes; yes 2 minutes to sign up. And guess what not only was the sign up quick and simple it was easy to use!!! I sign in, search for the store that I am considering purchasing from, click on the store, then click shop now and it takes me directly to the stores actual site. From there I order and pay like normal. I have placed orders through Ebates at jcpenny.com, swimsuitsforall.com, target.com and even Groupon! Within 24 hours the specified % of my purchase is in my Ebates account!! Ebates, also gives referral bonuses when you refer your friends and what friend wouldn't tell a friend how to get paid for shopping online??? Right! they wouldn't be any friend of mine! Shout out to Shemeika lol
Pictured below are my first 2 checks from Ebates!! If you know like I know you would sign up today! I put my rebates in to savings but another option would be to use those extras to buy that latte that you love, that you had to cut out the budget. Start stretching your money so you can enjoy that latte again!
After being successful at getting paid to shop online I thought t was only right to keep the party going!! It made me think back to my coupon class when the teacher told us to download a series of apps some of which offer cash back for shopping in store! One of those apps is called ibotta and it has quickly become my obsession! I'll tell you all about it in another post!
Make sure you check out the "Get Paid to Shop" page to sign up for amazing opportunities to get paid to shop!
#moneyyoga #neverpayfullprice #bmorefrugal #ebatesrebates
I don't know how many times I saw the show "Extreme Couponing" or saw someone's stockpile pictures on social media and said to myself, "I need to learn how to do that!" So, sometime in 2015, I want to say in June or July I took a couponing class. It was a great class and very eye opening. Actually my mind was blown because the first thing I learned was so simple, but it finally helped me make sense of how people save so much money couponing. That lesson was a purchase vs. a transaction!!! All of this time I thought, I could only use one of a particular coupon even if I was buying multiples of the coupon. Turns out "One coupon per PURCHASE" means one coupon per item purchased and multiple purchases of that item equals a transaction. Who Knew? Well obviously not me!
After that class I dived right in I immediately went to the store to try out what I learned from the instructor because not only did she teach us the tricks of the trade she also gave us coupons!! I was hooked but there was one major problem, I just couldn't find the time to get my coupons bought, clipped and organized. So I would make a trip here and there but nothing significant. Then I realized I wasn't really putting the most important part of what I learned in that class to use!! I needed to use my resources and stop trying to reinvent the wheel! There are people all over the world wide web and social media that coupon and post deal breakdowns. People that have coupon clipping and sorting services I just needed to use them! I can't teach you to coupon in blog post but I do suggest you reference the couponing 101 page of the money yoga website for great information on couponing.
Trust me it's worth it I've gotten items for free, and a lot a very discounted price. I think there is a misconception out there that if you are bot walking out of the store paying just pennies that means you are not doing a good job couponing. Well let me tell you what you spend is sometimes relative to the type of items you bought. An example of this is, it's very possible to walk out with free Hamburger Helper but its perfectly acceptable if you have an out of pocket of $34.00 but you have two big boxes of pampers that would have normally cost you $50.00. That's still a huge win because you didn't walk in the store like you normally do and pay full price. That $16.00 can go towards whatever your heart desires, it all adds up. Today I was able to walk out of the store with $96.00 worth of products and after coupons and rebates it cost me $8.95! If that isn't making a dollar out of .15 cents I don't know what is!
