I don't know how many times I saw the show "Extreme Couponing" or saw someone's stockpile pictures on social media and said to myself, "I need to learn how to do that!" So, sometime in 2015, I want to say in June or July I took a couponing class. It was a great class and very eye opening. Actually my mind was blown because the first thing I learned was so simple, but it finally helped me make sense of how people save so much money couponing. That lesson was a purchase vs. a transaction!!! All of this time I thought, I could only use one of a particular coupon even if I was buying multiples of the coupon. Turns out "One coupon per PURCHASE" means one coupon per item purchased and multiple purchases of that item equals a transaction. Who Knew? Well obviously not me!
After that class I dived right in I immediately went to the store to try out what I learned from the instructor because not only did she teach us the tricks of the trade she also gave us coupons!! I was hooked but there was one major problem, I just couldn't find the time to get my coupons bought, clipped and organized. So I would make a trip here and there but nothing significant. Then I realized I wasn't really putting the most important part of what I learned in that class to use!! I needed to use my resources and stop trying to reinvent the wheel! There are people all over the world wide web and social media that coupon and post deal breakdowns. People that have coupon clipping and sorting services I just needed to use them! I can't teach you to coupon in blog post but I do suggest you reference the couponing 101 page of the money yoga website for great information on couponing.
Trust me it's worth it I've gotten items for free, and a lot a very discounted price. I think there is a misconception out there that if you are bot walking out of the store paying just pennies that means you are not doing a good job couponing. Well let me tell you what you spend is sometimes relative to the type of items you bought. An example of this is, it's very possible to walk out with free Hamburger Helper but its perfectly acceptable if you have an out of pocket of $34.00 but you have two big boxes of pampers that would have normally cost you $50.00. That's still a huge win because you didn't walk in the store like you normally do and pay full price. That $16.00 can go towards whatever your heart desires, it all adds up. Today I was able to walk out of the store with $96.00 worth of products and after coupons and rebates it cost me $8.95! If that isn't making a dollar out of .15 cents I don't know what is!
