I learned the real ins and outs of couponing from taking a class. This page will share some of the best tips I've learned in class and along the way!
Do not think because you are not getting results that you saw on an extreme coupon show that you are not doing a good job! (Those shoes stretch the truth a bit, its television)
When you shop you MUST be organized. Going to the store with coupons all over the place is the quickest route to frustration and making mistakes!
Know the stores coupon policy! A lot of the associates don't know the policy. Listen for keywords like, "I think", "Probably", "Well Maybe" and "Ummmmm" as clues that the associate is making up their own policy based on some prior experience in their life. And it might be time to get a manager involved.
It's OK if a deal or coupon you thought would work doesn't and you have to ask for a void! (But, this can usually be avoided if you followed #2)
A purchase and a transaction are not the same thing! And don't let the associate in scenario #3 try to convince you that it is!
Always take all of your coupons in the store, don't try to trick yourself into only getting certain items! You never know what you might see!
A spin off of #1...Sometimes you may get different results than a fellow couponer in another area but that just might be the best price you will get in your area! Its OK, you are still saving!
Don't let people who don't understand the concept of a stockpile tell you have too much! (disclaimer: if you qualify for an episode of hoarders ignore me, I am not talking to you! You should listen!)
Be polite to the store staff and management! Don't give us couponers a bad name! Stick to this rule even if you run into the associate from the scenario in #3.
Read the fine print! Some coupons do have rules that are out of the norm.
